FAQ

Answers to the questions store owners ask most.

About the Retreat

Who is behind Backbeat Retreat?

Backbeat Retreat is created by people who have spent years inside the music retail world — owners, operators, and advisors who understand the pressure and isolation that come with running a store. This retreat exists because the industry needed a space that wasn’t sales‑driven or vendor‑driven.

Why is this invitation‑only?

The quality of the room is the experience. We curate the group intentionally so every attendee is committed, open, and ready to contribute.

How is this different from NAMM or NASMD?

Those events are built for scale. Backbeat Retreat is built for depth — small, private, and distraction‑free. No vendors. No noise. Just clarity and connection.

Who It’s For

Who is this retreat designed for?

Independent music store owners who want clarity, connection, and a more intentional path forward.

Who should not attend?

Anyone looking for a trade show, vendor showcase, or passive “sit and listen” event. This is for owners who want depth, not noise.

How many people will be there?

A small, curated group — intentionally limited to maintain intimacy and trust.

Experience & Expectations

What will I actually get out of attending?

A clearer sense of direction, a trusted peer group, fresh perspectives, and practical ideas you can implement immediately.

What is the schedule like?

A mix of structured sessions, guided conversations, small‑group work, and intentional downtime. Depth over speed.

What should I bring?

An open mind, a willingness to share honestly, and whatever helps you think clearly — notebook, laptop, key questions.

What is the dress code?

Comfortable and presentable. Relaxed, intentional, and professional.

Privacy & Safety

How is confidentiality handled?

Everything shared in the room stays in the room. Attendees agree to a simple confidentiality commitment.

Will competitors be in the same cohort?

Possibly — but never without intention. If two stores are too close competitively, we handle that thoughtfully.

Is this a sales pitch for something?

No. There are no upsells, no vendor influence, and no hidden agendas.

Logistics

How much does the retreat cost?

Do I pay when I apply?

No.
You must be approved before you can pay.
Just because you have $3,500 doesn’t mean you’ll be accepted.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

Because space is limited and curated, cancellations impact the entire group. Details are provided upon acceptance.

Can I bring a spouse or partner?

Absolutely. Guest participation is by invitation, and you’re welcome to request a spouse or partner during the application process. Approved guests may attend for an additional fee and, with the shared lodging discount, are invited to join all meals and special events throughout the retreat. Sessions remain owner focused, with rare exceptions for partners who play a meaningful role in the business.

Can multiple people from the same store attend?

Typically, no. The retreat is designed for owners to speak freely without internal dynamics.

Application Process

How do I request an invitation?

Visit BackbeatRetreat.com and complete the short request form.

What happens after I apply?

You’ll receive a personal follow‑up. If it feels like a strong match, we’ll schedule a brief conversation.

What if I’m not accepted this year?

You’re welcome to reapply next year. Group size is intentionally limited.

After the Retreat

Is there follow‑up after the retreat?

Yes. Attendees receive optional follow‑up opportunities to stay connected and maintain momentum.
